It’s a bitter take on physical touch. Tenderness is an ambiguous word meaning gentleness, being sensitive to pain and also the substance that can be easily damaged. The project emphasizes that trauma should be measured not by the perpetrator’s intentions, but by the actual harm experienced by the victim.

As a survivor of sexual assault abuse, I decided to depict two sides of a kiss. By definition, it’s an act with positive connotations: affection, love, and respect.

Despite this, it can also have its darker side - it can trigger traumatic memories and be intensely stressful. It can be undesirable and invasive.
